Because a volume is essentially a three-dimensional texture, it is possible to embed geometry and texture that geometry using the volume data. This technique is used in this video to create visualizations of MPR planes that could be displayed in other viewports. This can make MPR a much more intuitive technique to use because it is always clear where the planes intersect the volume.
