Most volume rendering is performed with the camera outside of the volume and using an orthographic projection, meaning that distance does not affect the volume’s size. This looks best for the majority of applications, but in some cases (such as the virtual colonoscopy shown in this video) it is necessary to place the camera inside the volume. In such cases it is necessary to use a perspective projection.
